What is Estill Voice Training?

Estill Voice Training® is a practical, evidence-informed approach to understanding how the voice works.

Rather than telling you there is one ‘right’ way to use your voice, Estill explores the different structures involved in voice production and teaches you how to control them independently. This gives you greater awareness, choice and control over the sounds you make.

For me, that’s one of the most exciting things about Estill. It isn't about changing your voice into somebody else's — it's about understanding what your voice can do and giving you more choices in how you use it.

Who is Estill for?

Estill is for anyone who wants to understand more about the voice.

That might include singers, actors and performers, singing teachers and vocal coaches, musical directors and choir leaders, speech and language therapists, teachers and professional voice users.

You don't need to be an experienced singer, and you certainly don't need to arrive with lots of technical knowledge. Curiosity about the voice is a very good place to start.

My Estill Journey

I first discovered Estill Voice Training around 16 years ago when I took a course as part of my own professional development.

At the time, I had trained at drama school, worked professionally as a performer and was already teaching singing and Musical Theatre. But I still had so many questions about the voice.

Estill gave me answers.

For the first time, I began to understand what was actually happening physiologically when we made different sounds. It transformed my understanding of the voice and had a huge impact on both my own practice and the way I taught others.

That first course began a journey that eventually led me to become an Estill Voice Training® Mentor & Course Instructor (EMCI).

I now use Estill every day in my work with singers, performers and students, and I'm delighted to be able to offer official Estill Voice Training courses and workshops.
